Join us for free preview screenings of Ken Burns' much-anticipated documentary, The Vietnam War and PBS Charlotte's companion piece, Vietnam in the Carolinas. A panel discussion will follow.
In an immersive narrative, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick tell the epic story of the Vietnam War as it has never before been told on film. The Vietnam War features testimony from nearly 80 witnesses, including many Americans who fought in the war and others who opposed it, as well as Vietnamese combatants and civilians from both the winning and losing sides.

You can also volunteer to help at the Mint Hill Town Hall the following day and time:
Tuesday, Nov. 8 7AM-7PM

Canned Food Drive
Independence High School has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank in a competition with local area schools to raise the most canned good in the Student Hunger Drive. A donate of 10 cans will count towards 1 hour of local service. Let's make sure that we are the number 1 school in the area.
Turn your 10 cans in to the AIS building. You must have Ms. Willett (or teacher) sign the you brought in the 10 cans.

Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy
The Chick-Fil-A Leadership Academy is for student who want to work on their leadership and give back. It is a commitment that will allow students to use curriculum published by Chick-Fil-A and create a service project to benefit the community. It is limited to 30 students, so please sign up ASAP. The first meeting is required and will be

Friday Sept. 23 : Heart Walk Set-Up 2pm-6pm (students can arrive earliest they are able to as getting out of school.)
Saturday Sept 24: Hear Walk Event 6am-12pm (noon) volunteers can arrive or leave when needed. First 150 there receive a free t-shirt.
**IF VOLUNTEERING** Must attend volunteer training session Tuesday Sept. 20 at 6pm. Address: 128 South Tryon St. on the 15th floor.

History Talks Lecture Series – Daniel Coston

3500 Shamrock Drive
Author and photographer Daniel Coston will give an illustrated presentation of Charlotte’s iconic music venues including The Visulite Theatre, Tremont Music Hall, Double Door Inn and The Milestone. A music lover who was inspired by musicians and artists he met, Coston decided to hit the road with his camera and tell their story and the story of his travels through pictures. Along the way, he photographed many interesting places and worked with legends like Johnny Cash, the Avett Brothers and hundreds more of the biggest names in music. A reception will follow Coston’s presentation.
